My immigration experience

My name is Debora but most people call me Debbie.i had never travelled to any other country before since i was born so coming to the United States was very challenging.Everything concerning my papers and all went on smoothly because it was filled by my mum and i heard it is really easy to bring someone here especially when you are blood related. I thought everything was ok and i was ready to come and join my mum here till i went for interview and they saw that they made a mistake on my passport, this little problem took about two months before a got another passport because the embassy would not let me come to the United States with the wrong passport that was too much for me to take but i hanged in there. till they called to interview me and gave me my visa and came to the United States. When i got here too,it was very hard for me to adjust myself to the life style here because i lived in my country for 20years before i was exposed to new cultures and people hardly understood me whenever i speak.
i remember one day i was at work with two of my co workers in our break room and they were talking about colors and asked me what my favorite color was so i said i love purple and they screemed and said whatchu say? and i repeated myself and they started laughing.and another girl said to me that i didnt pronounce the r in the word thats why because it sounds funny i was really embarrssed since then,i try to listen to the native Americans really closely wwhen they speak and listen to news and watch BET so i could also fit in and i think am better now than before. This is my immigration experience.
